About Paul

PAUL BEDNAR and his family have set down deep roots in the Elgin area. He has a mission to provide great places for all people to live. Whether it be master planning communities in Northern Illinois, designing attractive outdoor spaces, rehabbing old houses and neighborhoods, or giving a hand to individuals in need, Paul and his family are committed to being part of improving life for all people. Almost 40 years of active community involvement in Elgin has provided many projects and also accolades.

Paul and his wife have restored their 1905 Colonial Revival-style home in the Elgin National Historic District to its former grandeur.

Their many restoration efforts with "The Gumpa Project" were recognized with an Elgin Mayor’s Award in 2015, and the Henry Jensen Award for Historic Preservation in 2020. They also received the Chicagoland Paint and Coatings Association's "Painted Lady" award in 2014, 2015 and 2019 - for their own home as well as other historic properties in Elgin, which they rehabbed over a period of five years.

Paul has also served many years on the board of the Gifford Park Association, as both president and as the Historic Elgin House Tour Chairman. During this time, some of his major accomplishments were the implementation of period streetlights and street signs in the Elgin Historic District, improvements to Gifford Park, assisting on numerous GPA house rehabs, and overseeing many landscape and streetscape projects that helped beautify the neighborhood. He has also served on the board of Greater Family Health in Elgin for 12 years.

Paul grew up in neighboring Hoffman Estates, where he designed a nature trail as his Eagle Scout project, and later was active as a Plan Commissioner and an Environmental Commissioner. He credits his wife, Jean, for turning him into an old house and preservation enthusiast.
